Hi there, and thanks for taking the time to come over to the blog section on the SCTC website. Here you’ll find various musings and observations from a range of our highly qualified tennis coaches here at the Club.
This first post is from our Head Coach at the club, Chris Johnson (or CJ for short) on:
‘Parents falling into the trap of chasing LTA ranking and ratings points‘. What are your thoughts on the subject? Head over to our Facebook page and let us know!
“It’s amazing how many parents fall into the trap of chasing LTA ranking and ratings points…
A parent told me of a 7 hour journey to Bolton to play a grade 2, what ever that means. Surely the child would become a better player from investing the time and effort into their development.
25 years of coaching and ALL I keep seeing is a decent 10 year old becoming EXACTLY the same player at 16, just in a bigger body: this is a result of been sucked into the system.
Why do we not learn from the 25 years of mistakes everyone else has made. I guess that no one wants to step outside of the system and be viewed as CRAZY but actually they are being VERY VERY smart. Tennis is a RISK-REWARD sport in ALL aspects, especially in the development of young players. ALL these parents chasing the system should just throw their money and time down the drain. Junior tennis is Junior Tennis and Adult tennis is Adult tennis: there is NO comparison.”
